The honest answer: it depends less on the app and more on how much you build before you know anyone wants it. A focused first version, designed properly and built with AI-assisted tools, can cost as little as AED 7,000–21,000 and take one to three months. A first version from a Dubai agency is typically quoted at AED 100,000–250,000 and takes three to six months, and fuller apps go well beyond that. The biggest saving isn't a cheaper supplier. It's building less, sooner.

Here's how I'd think about it if I were a founder getting quotes this year.

## Typical prices in Dubai in 2026

These are the ranges published in 2026 price guides from Dubai and UAE app developers, for a first version (MVP) with accounts, a few core screens and a simple admin panel. Treat them as a guide to what you'll be quoted, not a promise. Prices exclude 5% VAT.

| Route | Typical first version | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| App development company in Dubai | AED 100,000–250,000 | 3–6 months |
| Offshore or freelance team | AED 25,000–90,000 | 2–4 months |
| Senior designer-builder with AI tools | AED 7,000–21,000 | 1–3 months |
| Fuller app with payments, real-time features or two native apps | AED 300,000+ | 6–12 months |

The spread is huge because the quotes aren't for the same thing. The cheapest options build less and leave more of the project management to you. The most expensive include a full team, a long discovery phase and a fixed scope.

## What you're actually paying for

Most quotes bundle together five different jobs:

1. **Product design.** Working out what the app does, the flows, the screens and how it feels. This is where most of the expensive mistakes are either caught or baked in.
2. **The build.** Turning the designs into an app that runs on phones. Usually the largest line on any quote.
3. **The backend.** Accounts, data, payments, notifications, an admin panel for your team. Often underestimated, because nobody sees it.
4. **Testing and launch.** Fixing what breaks on real devices, App Store and Google Play submission, analytics.
5. **Keeping it running.** Hosting, updates when iOS and Android change, bug fixes and new features. This never stops.

When two quotes look wildly different, it's usually because one includes things the other quietly leaves out. Ask every supplier to price those five separately.

## Three ways to get an app built

**An app development company.** Most app development companies in Dubai work as agencies: you get a full team and a fixed scope. It works well when you know exactly what you need and have the budget for it. The catch for early-stage founders is that you're paying to build a detailed plan before you've tested it, and changes cost extra. Expect quotes from around AED 100,000 for a first version, and well into six figures for anything more ambitious.

**Freelancers or a first hire.** Cheaper per hour, but you become the project manager. You'll need a designer and at least one developer, and someone senior enough to make the product decisions. A full-time senior hire is a big fixed cost before you have revenue.

**A design subscription with AI-assisted builds.** One senior person designs and builds a first version for a flat monthly fee. AI tools have made it realistic for a small team to ship a working app that would have needed a much bigger team a few years ago. It's the model I offer, so weigh that. It suits founders who want to learn fast and change direction cheaply. My Build plan is AED 7,000 a month, and a focused first version usually takes one to three months.

## What pushes the price up

- **Scope.** Every feature you add before launch adds design, build and testing time. Most first versions need far less than founders plan.
- **Custom backend work.** Bookings, payments, matching, anything with real-time updates.
- **Integrations.** Payment providers, maps, calendars, third-party APIs.
- **Two native apps instead of one.** Building separately for iOS and Android adds a lot of build work. Cross-platform tools cover most first versions well.
- **Arabic and English.** Right-to-left layouts are worth doing properly if your users need them, and they add design and testing time.
- **Changing your mind late.** Cheap in a prototype, expensive in code.

## How to spend less without cutting corners

**Prototype before you build.** A clickable prototype you can put in front of ten real users costs a fraction of a build and tells you most of what you need to know.

**Start with off-the-shelf tools.** Plenty of businesses can run their first months on existing platforms, forms and messaging. Build your own app when those tools start holding you back, not before.

**Build the one thing that matters.** Pick the job your users most need done and make that excellent. Everything else can wait for version two.

**Use AI where it actually helps.** AI-assisted tools are very good at getting a working first version up quickly. They don't replace product judgement: someone still has to decide what to build and notice when it's wrong.

**Budget for after launch.** A common rule of thumb is 15–25% of the build cost every year for hosting, updates and fixes, and more in the first year, when real users find the problems testing missed. New features come on top of that.

## Questions founders ask

**How do I choose an app development company in Dubai?**
Ask who will actually do the work, see a live product similar to yours, and get every quote to price the same five jobs: design, build, backend, launch and running costs. Be wary of a fixed price for a vague brief.

**Can I get an app built for under AED 20,000?**
Yes, if it's a focused first version of a fairly simple product: sign-up, the one core job, a simple admin panel, built cross-platform with AI-assisted tools. Not if you need a two-sided marketplace, complex payments, real-time features or separate native apps for iOS and Android from day one.

**How long does a first version take?**
With a tight scope and one experienced person designing and building, usually four to twelve weeks. Agencies typically quote three to six months, because they're building more and running a longer process around it.

**Should I get a fixed quote or pay monthly?**
A fixed quote works when the scope is genuinely fixed. Early on it rarely is, so paying monthly for a senior person who can change direction with you is usually better value.

**Do I need a technical co-founder first?**
Not necessarily. You need someone senior making product decisions. That can be a co-founder, a part-time co-founder or an experienced designer who can also build.
